Due to institutional computers being shut down, the Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) will not be available from its main NASA site and many of its mirror sites during the days just before and after the Y2K turnover. However, we do expect that the APOD mirror site at the Sternberg Astronomical Institute at Moscow University in Russia being run by Oleg Bartunov of AstroNet will continue to operate during this period, and should continue to serve each new APOD on the appropriate day. This APOD mirror is located here. Please bookmark this mirror site to see the new APODs as they appear.
Additionally, the APOD mirror in the Physics Department of National Cheng Kung University in Tainan, Taiwan also expects to be operating over the Y2K transition. This site is maintained by Han-Tzong Su and is located here.
The main APOD site and all other mirrors should return to normal service on or before 2000 January 3. As usual, all previously run APODs will be available in our archive. We thank you for your patience, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
